Bryony Matthew is a mixed-media visual artist inspired by measured and technical sources such as charts and natural history field guides, and time spent exploring New Zealand.
“Images I gather exploring NZ by sea and track over many years have built a memory bank of light, colour and form which underpins my work.”
The Not for Navigation series an ongoing project of daily art making and journaling while travelling through the Hauraki Gulf, and coastal NZ as far North as Mangonui Harbour during 20 years of summers.
Watercolour and pencil hand drawn charts of the places we visit.
“Painting is my internal navigation.”
